How do I get the right to release a version of a song back to a global audience, for example on iTunes?
I recorded and out my version of a song from another artist. The song will be available on CD, available for purchase from my website and through distributors iTunes as digital. Yet when I contacted the publishers, they say I must buy "mechanical rights" of the song for each country, is released in. I would be in place here, but can not even predict which countries could come to my buyers. What is the real position here? How do I cover myself?
